Unintentionally brilliant training.
Work in advertising? Want to? Then go to a country that doesn’t speak english - and ideally, a country that doesn’t use the english alphabet.
I’ve often found myself flipping through magazines - I eat a lot of meals alone (I’m rad). And I’ve developed a fun game: what’s that ad? Seriously, you gain such an appreciation for art direction when you have no idea when the copy says…kinda makes me wish I had any form of visual talent.
If you’re ad makes sense without the need for a line of copy, it’s probably going to work. That’s the theory I came up with last night. Over dinner. Alone.
The lesson? Appreciate art direction, and make your message simple and clear.
And don’t be a copywriter. Because we eat dinner alone, night after night.
