Spring in the 'Jing.
Welcome to that fantastic time of year in Beijing that makes you forget the long, cold winter. Seemingly overnight, the city transforms from a bleak, grey, freezing wasteland into a fertile, green, bloom filled nirvana.
The rooftop bars open. The heavy jackets and beanies disappear. The outdoor cafes and restaurants fill with laughter, and the people of this city seem happier as the streets fill with shoppers, families and loved ones, excited to be comfortable and outside in the clean, warm air.
The blossoms bloom in every hue from white through to blood red, and the magnolias scent the air. The grass begins to grow as the gardening crews fill the flowerbeds with water and spray the streets in their never ending quest to waste H2O.
The shorts come out, and the summer dresses begin to appear. The people are happy, and once again the weather saves the day. There are more bicycles. There are more smiles.
And soon - too soon - the hot summer will hit, and we’ll all slow down again. But for now, this city is completely alive.
