Last Night (She Said)

Last night ranked highly in the ‘random reasons to love Beijing’ column. On a perfect  autumn evening, I got dressed up and headed to a function run by the Swedish Embassy. It’s a Swedish tradition - Crayfish night!

The night started hilariously: meeting Kelly (who was my date as Adam is on a work trip), I was firmly told by his daughter that she ‘didn’t like [me] as much as my daddy’. Me neither, I replied. Matisse told me I looked fancy. So with that cleared up, off we went.

Arrived, and boom: incredible. The food was amazing, just an enormous amount of buffet goodness. The music was hilarious. And the DRINKING! My god…i thought Australians knew a shitload of drinking song…not even in the same league. And on top of the beers, the Swedes were CRUSHING schnapps. CRUSHING!!

After attempting to start ‘Dan caught a plane and went to Rome to see the pope’ eleven or so times, I gave up and started singing in Swedish. Good times.

Being an ex-pat ain’t so bad.
