I couldn't sleep so I found myself wandering. I moved through my compound in the dark, eventually returning to my own backyard. I found it overrun with weeds and climbers, clinging for life yet smothering the very plants that gave the space such a feeling of escape... A green privacy in the heart of such a big city.
Even as the rain tumbled down, I slowly worked through the space, methodically and deliberately, pulling out the intruders and freeing up the natives. I was drenched by the time I finished, but all the weeds were gone. I felt in control: my house was in order.
Now I could sleep.
