An Uneasy Feeling.
Shanghai is feeling weird at the moment. The next leader of China is missing - no one has seen him for two weeks. On top of this, there is the very real chance that China and Japan could go to war over some privately owned islands. In the streets, Japanese people have been bashed by Chinese gangs; at bus stations, Japanese mothers are spat at by Chinese mothers. It's hard to put into words how much these two nations loathe each other, but this week has felt particularly unpleasant.
Yesterday morning, the Shanghai government tested the air raid system. I've never heard anything like that before - it was loud and it was scary. I didn't like it one bit. If something goes down, I will be on the first plane back home.
